The bead
The ball tilt switch is a capsule containing a small light metallic bead. This is NOT a mercury ball switch.
Depending on its orientation, this tilt switch's metallic bead within it's cylinder opens or closes the switch.
It is mostly used as a movement speed/intensity sensor, because in a certain position it can be sensitive to the slightest movement, which can return a very chaotic detection. The number of contacts per second can be extrapolated to get the agitation level of the sensor or its surface.
To use it as a tilt sensor, one must process the data with a mean to limit this sensitivity.
