Rotation: how to transmit data and power supplies?

Rotary connector = rotary collector, slip ring, sliding spring, or collector ring.

The collector is a small mechanism that transmits electricity along a rotating axis.

For example, if a speaker emits sound around a rotating axis, turning back and forth, if a light placed on a rotating platform is controlled from a stationary computer, or if a sensor at the end of a crane arm needs to send a signal beyond the central axis—in all these cases, electrical wires cannot run directly from one side of the axis to the other, as they would twist, tangle, stretch, and break.

Without a rotary connector, continuous rotation would not be possible, as the electrical wires would twist, tangle, and break.


The slip ring allows for the creation of a rotating mobile zone for electrical wires.

• Signal transmission: sensor data, actuator commands, audio streams...  
• Power transmission: ground, low voltage, and compatibility with 240V mains power.

Fixed part / Rotating part

The connector consists of two mechanical parts and wires.


The stator side must be fixed using three screws or nuts. It secures the wires on one side of the mechanism.


The rotor side rotates freely and extends the bundle of 10 wires.
